"In 1922, Simon Hubig founded a small company that would go on to become an iconic fixture in New Orleans culture. Hubig's Pie Company began by selling its hand-held pies adorned with mascot, Savory Simon, at corner stores, and then later at K&B's and Schwegmann's throughout the city, becoming a beloved treat for people of all ages and backgrounds.
But it wasn't just the delicious taste of these pies that made them special; they were a part of the fabric of New Orleans society. Hubig's Pies were a popular choice for Mardi Gras parade throws, Popeye's Chicken night and crawfish boil desert tables. They held a default spot in the hearts of the city's residents, offering a taste of nostalgia and a link to the past.
Simon did not realize he would someday become a saint of New Orleans, he just wanted to make good pies. Just like New Orleans, he never tried for greatness, he just was. Through two fires, many hurricanes and a pandemic, one hundred years later, you can still grab a pie and let delicious link you back to days long ago."
